The Blessing: Step 1

Separating from the past
A new life starts from one step in the right direction.

"If My people who are called by My name will humble by themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways. Then I will hear from heaven and forgive their sin and heal their land.' Bible - 2 Chronicles 7:14

The Holy Wine Ceremony

What is the Holy Wine?

The Holy Wine is made up of 21 ingredients representing all things. It has ingredients that symbolize the love of parents, the earth, the seas, and heaven, thus it symbolizes the whole cosmos. All those elements stand for Purity.

The Holy Marriage Blessing begins with a cleansing past mistakes with a simple but yet profound and significant ceremony the Holy Wine Ceremony
In this session, we learn its significance.

What is the significance of the Holy Wine Ceremony?

The original ancestors, who we refer to as Adam and Eve, were supposed to become husband and wife with God’s love in their hearts; but the order of love was reversed – and they consummated their marriage with selfish love. The Holy Wine Ceremony restores the order of love to its original state. Adam and Eve’s mistake was passed down to us through the blood lineage. This ceremony signifies a rebirth that reverses that mistake.

The woman goes through a process of being restored first; then she gives birth to the man. Together husband and wife are engrafted onto the original blood lineage of God. So, the Holy Wine Ceremony is our opportunity to separate from the painful history of resentment that has developed between men and women over the generations, and that manifests in conflict and abuse between the sexes today. By drinking the Holy Wine, we are receiving God’s grace upon our life. It’s a powerful ceremony between the two of you - claiming your rightful position as an “original man” or “original woman” connected to God, so that you become capable of loving as God intended at the Beginning. This simple ceremony is a powerful historical new start.

The Blessing: Step 2
Being Revived

"The purpose of marriage is to synchronize the man's heart  and the woman's heart to perfect their love."
- Father Moon -

After the  Holy Wine Ceremony, we stand in the position of the first human ancestors before the fall. The Blessing Ceremony connects our marriage to God's lineage allowing us to start a new life through the Love of God. Furthermore, the Blessing Ceremony  confirms an eternal bond between the two of you as husband and wife.  It is the celebration of your commitment to love each other eternally - being absolutely faithful to one another - and to create a strong marriage and an empowered family.  (Some couples frame their Holy Marriage Blessing certificate and hang it in a meaningful place of their home)

In other words, the  Blessing Ceremony is not simply a wedding through which a man and a woman come together and form a family.  Until now, weddings were solely for the sake of the people getting married.  But this wedding ceremony is more significant as it is a condition to indemnify the past and return joy to God. Therefore, we like to conduct our ceremonies in a sacred and splendid manner.  A study of Divine Principle explains to us that the Blessing alleviates God's bitter grief that was caused by the Fall of the first human ancestors.  It goes beyond the standard of husband and wife.

In the Korean language, "The literal meaning of the word "blessing" is "praying for blessings."  If you break down the word chookbok (blessing), chook means to pray or wish for something.  When you are praying for blessings, what is it that is most precious?  It is none other that the blessing of love.  The Marriage Blessing Movement uses the word blessing with this meaning.  The blessing of love is the greatest, because the fundamental origin of life begins with man and woman coming together in a holy wedding.  It represents the most precious commitment of the universe.  When praying for blessing, the best blessing you can ask for is the blessing of love, and so we refer to marriage as the blessing. ~ Father Moon

God's original ideal is that we grow in our relationships. The following ancient biblical words speak to an important nutrient essential to all growth:

" There is hope for the tree, if it is cut down, that it will sprout again, and that its shoots won't stop growing. Even if its roots have grown ancient in the earth, and its stump begins to rot in the ground, the presence of water will make it to bud, so that it sprouts new branches like a young plant." Job 14: 7-9 This beautiful imagery speaks volumes. God is our ancient, unchanging root. As we look around the world today and observe the horrors of physical and sexual violence and other forms of corruption, we can see the stump has indeed rooted in the ground. The sprinkling of Holy Water in the Marriage Blessing Ceremony allows us to sprout a new branch that is connected to God's lineage. Thus we become capable of producing a new healthy bud through love that is absolute, unchanging, eternal, and unique.

The couple then commits through their vows to fulfill love as God intended and establish a loving family that can contribute to God's ideal for a peaceful world.

"Dear God, our Heavenly Parent, please accept these couples into your bosom. We ask that through this ceremony all traces of historical evil are removed from their blood lineage so that these couples engraft into God's family. Heavenly Parent, please accept them as blessed families, and embrace them as your pure children ... "

The Blessing: Step 3

"Where there is forgiveness, there is God Himself." Sikhism. Adi Granth, Shalok, Kabir, p. 1372 Forgive, Love, and Unite: 3 magical words that free us from the past and invite us to a bright future.  In man-woman relations, to one degree or another, we have all erred.  So have our ancestors.  This special ceremony frees us from any physical abuse or misuse of love from the past.  This ceremony is a new beginning, forgiving yourself, your spouse, and others in this delicate area of your heart. From this day forward, whenever a struggle rises: say aloud the 3 magical words.  Tell them to each other and walk together towards your new future.

The redemption ceremony is a ritual that symbolically makes restitution for the misuse of the lower parts of the body during the fall.  This ceremony entails the husband and wife striking each other firmly on the buttocks three times with a stick, after which the couple makes a clean new start together. With the husband and wife hitting each other in the position representing God, the ceremony grants them indemnity toward their past mistakes, in both body and mind.  Three strikes symbolize the restoration through indemnity of the three orderly stages ~ formation, growth and perfection ~ the stages of forgiving, loving, and uniting with each other.  This ceremony is held in order for the husband and the wife to restore their mistakes through indemnity and pledge a happy life as an eternal couple in front of God,  True Parents,  and senior and fellow couples.
